Unspoiled since 1939, Monarch Mountain annually boasts more than 350 inches of 100 percent all-natural powder. Family-oriented prices from lift tickets to food, beverage and rentals make Monarch one of the most affordable ski resorts in the state. A ridiculously short walk from the free parking lot to short or nonexistent lift lines means more time on Monarch’s uncrowded slopes. At Monarch you'll lose the crowds, not your friends.

Learn or brush up. The friendly staff of Monarch’s Ski and Ride School are eager to help folks of any age improve their skiing and riding skills. Monarch offers excellent children's programs including day care and private, half- and full-day group lessons for the very young to the young at heart. Hometown-priced lesson packages from fun-loving pros mean you can take skills to the next level and still have plenty of dough left over to play another day.

Slopestyle. The super-relaxed atmosphere at Monarch’s terrain park means it’s extra fun to while away hours on fun-boxes, rails, hips, spines and phat hits. New this season, the K2 Organic Terrain Park accessed via the Breezeway Lift offers natural log hits and Monarch’s famous “Real Snow.”

Sidecountry skiing. Shoulder your gear and hike 10 minutes from the top of the Breezeway Lift to Mirkwood Basin where skiing the way it used to be awaits. No grooming, no chairlifts, just a smorgasbord of sweet bowl and tree skiing. Natural hazards exist; advanced skiing and riding skills seriously advised.

Backcounty bounty. Rated among the top six North American snowcat operations by Freeskier, Monarch Snowcat Tours accesses more than 900 acres of steeps, trees, chutes, and bowls. Expert guides lead groups of up to 12 people into massively fun backcountry. Reservations are required and space fills up fast, so round up a posse of friends and set a date today!

Make yourself at home. Skiers and snowboarders have a variety of places to lay their weary heads after an action-packed day on the slopes including lodges, bed and breakfasts and hotels located between Monarch and Salida. Before dinner, treat yourself to a little local flavor with a leisurely stroll in historic downtown Salida.
